IVAN ORVILLE MERRITT Peacefully on December 13, 2000 at the Central Park Lodge (Poseidon), Ivan Merritt, aged 84, passed on this life to be with his Friend and Personal Savior Jesus Christ. Ivan leaves to mourn his wife of 58 years Lillian; sons, Claude (Dorinda) and Clyde (Pat) sister Eileen Radigk, and brothers Carman and Elmer (Wilma) sisters-in-law Millie Merritt and Mary Merritt and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by infant daughter Arlene, sister Mae and brothers Melvin and Morley. Our husband and father was born in the Rossburn area of Manitoba on February 7, 1916. He came to Winnipeg as a young man, held several sales jobs, and married his lifelong companion Lillian in 1942. He served his country in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. In 1949 he decided to join brother Carman in California and the family moved to Los Angeles and later San Jose with a short period in Salem, Oregon. The family returned to Winnipeg in 1959 so Ivan could be closer to his aging parents. Ivan ended his career as the graphic arts supervisor at the St. Boniface General Hospital, retiring at the age of 65 in 1981. Ivan was a religious and humble man who wondered throughout his life for what reason we were put on this earth. He knew that God had a plan for each of us. He loved God, his family, old time hymns, gardening, working with wood, children of all ages, Laurel & Hardy movies, and later long bicycle rides with his ever faithful and companion collies Ceilidh and Sasha in tow. His laugh was infectious and he enjoyed life. The family would like to especially thank Brother Dennis Woodford of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for his help, concern and compassion during the past several years of Ivans illness. We also thank the dedicated staff of Manitoba Home Care and each and every person associated with the 3rd floor of Central Park Lodge (Poseidon) for your care and dedication to Ivan. You are all special people on this earth. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service to celebrate Ivans life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 19 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 45 Dalhousie Drive, Winnipeg. Flowers are gratefully declined. Gifts in Ivans memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Road, Winnipeg, MB or to the charity of your choice.
